RoadWhisper ("the app") is an AI-powered audio tour guide for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.
The app uses your device's GPS location to find nearby points of interest and generate audio stories about them. Your coordinates are sent to our server solely to search for nearby places. We do not store or log your precise GPS coordinates — they are used only to process your request and discarded immediately afterwards.
When a nearby place is detected, a short description is generated by a third-party AI service (Groq). The request sent to the AI includes:
Your precise GPS location is not included in AI requests. Generated stories are cached on our server to improve performance.
The app uses an anonymized, app-specific device identifier (Apple's identifierForVendor on iOS; a randomly generated UUID on Android) to manage your account and track daily usage limits. This identifier is stored on our server and is not shared with third parties.
Our backend server (hosted in the EU) stores the following data linked to your device identifier:
No name, email address, or other personally identifiable information is collected.
If you subscribe to RoadWhisper Premium, your purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive a subscription token to verify your subscription status. The token and expiry date are stored on our server. We do not have access to your payment details — all billing is handled by the respective store.
To manage or cancel your subscription on iOS, go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions. On Android, go to Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions.
Place data is fetched from the OpenStreetMap Overpass API. Queries include your approximate location to find nearby places. OpenStreetMap's privacy policy applies: osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
